It's an After-Party - all the cool people are gonna be there...

I know it's been awhile since I posted - bad me. I have good reasons. Really. Below is one of them. My last post was about Melissa over at The Inspired Room having a Procastinator's Party and me joining in the fun. And look...here i am....HAVING FUN. Ok, not. I did have fun the first hour. Not so much after that.

I think i lost that lovin' feeling somewhere between "yes, i'm sure we don't need to use spacers" and "WHY AREN'T YOU USING SPACERS??!!??"

For fun, add:
  • Watching Vance get shocked by an exposed outlet and then promptly electrocuting myself on the same outlet 30 minutes later. I'm a slow learner. or as V says, i learn by doing. LOL.
  • Getting the tile on the wall before rushing out to meet my cousin for dinner only to come home and see that some of them had decided hanging on the wall wasn't for them and decided to party with the floor tile and the counter.
  • Blowing out the circuit breaker in Lowes when i took a few tiles in to have them cut. I guess the outlet the wet saw is plugged into trips the circuit every.single.time. For us, it was an on-going event. The tile guys started hiding when they saw us walk down the aisle.
  • Thinking how nice it was to have the job DONE, finito, grabbing a glass of wine and sinking into the couch only to hear Vance scream a really bad word from the kitchen. It seems you CAN screw an outlet cover on too tight. We broke 2 of the tiles that were now set firmly in mortar and grout. and of course, they were cut tiles. not whole tiles. awesome.
All things considered, we did a really good job - see for yourself. However, this is not my cup of tea. uh uh. I would much rather use my fingers to write a check or sign a charge slip to get this done. But it's UP and still on the wall (including the cracked ones because i just can't face that right now. It's too soon. The trauma is still too fresh. Maybe next year.

It looks great! I'm thinking about doing this exact project... I guess I should consider the frustrations before starting :).

Stunning! I love the look of the finished tile! I'd do it myself it I didn't have to deal with the grout. Great Job!!

You did it!! Trust me, you deserve a BIG pat on the back...I've done all of the grouting in our house and putting it UP on the wall is, by far, the hardest thing to do!
AND...it looks great!
Every DIY project must have tears...it's a prerequisite:)

Love subway tiles. Makes the room look so modern and clean. It's so funny how we all get pumped to do these projects, and are cursing them an hour into it. I'm with you about hiring people, but hey, where's the "fun" in that?!

It looks splendid!! I would never do this!!! It must have been pretty frustrating work. Our old kitchen was updated in the 50's and it had a panel thingy that looked like tile. I was so thankful that Lowes had some similar stuff some years back and we could replace it with the same kind of thing---No way was I going to try real tiling!!

Love your subway tiles!I did the chalk board paint that you commented on and I thought it was funny b/c I was drooling over yours! I even told my hubby before I did this that IF I did a tile it would be subway tiles but that was not really in our budget right now so Chalk board paint it was!
You did an awesome job by the way! Love it. :)

Looks all bright and shiny and motivates me to go rip out that carpet on the hallway and stairs and refinish my floors. Well, kind of.

All that sheen in your kitchen has my floor tile saying "what about me, Mom?". Cleaning guilt. Yikes.

Wow, that looks great! I'm also going to use white subway tile in my kitchen, and I'm inspired seeing yours! I need countertops first, though, so I'll have to wait a bit. Hope mine turns out as great as yours!!

LOL, that is hysterical. Not your tile, your story. Sounds exactly like some scenarios around my house. Glad it was you and not me this time!

Of course, I adore subway tile and think yours turned out FABULOUS!!!

Enjoy (and thanks for being a part of the party!)

Very cool. I tiled our backsplash with white ceramic too...squares. I really like your subways. Loved your comedy of errors type post...makes me feel so not alone!

Love the subway tiles! You are a brave woman for taking on this tiling project by yourself! Just chalk up all those little frustrations as "learning experiences." I've had more than my fair share of those too.

That looks so amazing. I'm totally drooling because I've been wanting a subway tile backsplash. But, I have to say your discussion of the pain of the project helps me put it off. It's kinda like putting off having children when all my coworkers tell me about their mischievous munchkins... And, then they say: "but, children really are so wonderful"

yah... right. Don't try to trick me.=)
